SPT- Summer Grass

I am way too cheap to pay for a professional landscaper to come out and do our 6 feet of grass, but what I want to know is how they do it. We are willing and really do have enough time to put a little work into it, but we just can't seem to get rid of the weeds or the crab grass or make it look so green or make it feel so nice and soft. I'll tell you one thing, though. It would be infinitely better if I just stayed out of the whole thing and let my husband take care of it. This is the hole I put in the lawn last winter when I threw a bucket of salt water from our ice cream maker onto the snow, not thinking about the grass that would need to try to grow there that summer. See, I was really thinking of all those cars parked on the street- no one uses their garage around here. I didn't think people would appreciate the salt water splash that may corrode their paint. But I have to admit that I have done worse than this. I ortho weed and grass killed the lawn 2 years in a row when we lived in Wyoming. Not one of my finest hours. Just call me ol' black thumb!

seems like you and i read the same manual on lawn maintenance :) (that seems liek a lot of work to have to think about the lawn in the dead of winter when it's covered with snow!

Grass is a tricky plant - I've never mastered it, and find many years in a row I've killed our lawn because I don't water it enough or the sprinklers don't work and we don't notice it until it's too late. I never would have thought about the after thought of snow and the salt - thanks for tip!

At least you have good company!

I've done some similar things. Like set the lawnmower to the shortest setting. It cut the grass practically down to the roots!

I know almost nothing about yard work and choose to ignore it completely. However since my husband does not often have time to do it, our yard looks pretty unattractive most of the time.

Sadly, I can relate!

Who knew that your grass wouldn't grow there...I wouldn't have thought of that!

We are paying this year because our house is on the market it most look good. however, the neighbors aren't paying so it doesn't look that great in a block of brown lawns. My father, the professional in this area maintains that a lawn should have some brown spots and yellow spots in it and that completely green grass is not its natural or best state and he has the ph D in soils to support his opinion. Oh, funny and sad! We have a dog to burn out our grass . . .

Oh gee, I'm glad someone else has to learn on grass, too. Sometimes I forget what clorox or vinegar will do to it! The thing I don't get is how it grows everywhere you don't want it to.

My parents had a huge yard when I grew up - and we had a PUSH Mower!!! So I kind of grew a little resentment for cutting grass!!! Great post!

I would not have thought about that in the dead of winter either!
I will file this away- and let's just see if I remember it.
